Second IPSF Intern at Stop TB Partnership
Mr Luis Miguel Lourenço from Portugal, the second IPSF intern at the Stop TB Partnership, focused on paediatric formulations during the first part of his internship commencing in September 2005. While Mr Lourenço acknowledged the benefits that mass production of TB drugs has brought to adult TB patients around the world, he was very much aware of the difficulties surrounding the production of formulations appropriate for children suffering from tuberculosis.
Mr Lourenço emphasised that pharmacists have the skills and expertise to make drugs available to everyone who needs them, including children. "Pharmacists should keep an eye on the minority, even if it's just one patient", stated Mr Lourenço in his Internship Report.

First IPSF/WHO Intern begins work in Geneva
Maureen Forrestel, from the United States of America, is the first pharmacy student to be awarded an IPSF/WHO Internship. She began her three month program at the Stop TB Partnership Secretariat on 2 June 2005. Maureen writes on her experience so far:
In the United States, tuberculosis (TB) is a disease which often does not receive much mainstream media attention. When I started my internship with the Stop TB Partnership Secretariat, however, I quickly came to appreciate the global scope of TB.

IPSF and WHO Announce New Opportunity for Pharmacy Students
In May 2004 IPSF became the first international organisation representing the pharmacy profession to join the Stop TB Partnership. The Partnership includes over 250 organisations and individuals committed to promoting both short and long term measures required to control and eventually eliminate TB as a global public health problem. The Partnership secretariat is hosted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva.
Through IPSF, WHO will accept up to four pharmacy student or young pharmacist interns to work for periods of up three months at the Stop TB Partnership Secretariat.
